Gigs/Videos
This has been a very quiet year, gig-wise, due to a variety of reasons, most of them far too mundane to trouble you with here. One reason though was a burst of recording and media work in the first half of the year (which was most welcome), and another was the formation and rehearsal process of the new band, Dog Moon Howl. Anyway, this year's live work is all finished up, barring any last-minute bookings, with next year set to be very busy indeed with both solo and band gigs. Dog Moon Howl already has a couple of January dates pencilled in - keep checking back on the gigs page here or over at dogmoonhowl.com for live dates as we get them.
In the meantime I have a fair bit of video to trawl through, from solo gigs at The Ferry and The 13th Note, as well as from Dog Moon Howl's first gig. Highlights from these will be uploaded to the Craig Hughes YouTube channel over the rest of the year.

Scædunengan - Birdsong
I played the electric guitars on this track for an old mate, ex-Morpheus Rising singer Graeme Tennick (we were in a band together in the '80s) on his new solo venture, Scædunengan. Graeme is posting various versions of the track, and of the album itself, as it develops. Check it out/grab a free download here.
Internet TV appearance/ The Charliebear Show
Had a good night on July 1st in Edinburgh on the internet telly - thanks to all on the show for making me feel welcome and putting up with my random forgetfulness/making-songs-up-on-the-spot type shenanigans. Thanks also to Roger 'The Bluesfather' Emmerson for getting me on there. You can check out the show here.

Gigs
Next up: The Vagabond Social Club in Glasgow (check out the new VSC website here) - Friday, May 6th. Then it’s the album launch for Jim Dead’s “Ten Fires” @ The 13th Note on June 2nd.
Recording (music for media)
The rest of April and most of May will be taken up with the writing/recording some incidental music for media, so there won’t be a lot of live work etc. during that time. However, bookings are being taken for the second half of the year with a few That Devil Music events on the horizon, so watch this space.
Band projects
Things are beginning to move on the band-front. I’m hoping to be involved with at least a couple of different ongoing projects and am looking for interested musicians. First up is the retro/stoner/psych/heavy-alt.blues/rock trio I’m putting together with me old mucker Bryan Campbell (ex of Dublin’s 13 Conditions) on bass. Vibe-guide: think Sabbath, Groundhogs, Hendrix, The Who, Zeppelin, Neil Young & Crazyhorse etc, on up to Clutch, Fu Manchu, QOTSA, White Stripes, Dinosaur Jr. and so on. We were safe in the knowledge that we had a drummer ready to go from end of May/beginning of June - not so, as it happens. So, if you’re a drummer who’s interested in that sort-of-thing, get in touch (see ‘contact’ page for details). I’ll start advertising properly in a week or two but feel free to get in touch sooner rather than later ...

Gigs
Next up: Record Store Day @ Europa Music, Stirling - Saturday, April 16th. After that it’s the Vagabond Social Club in Glasgow (check out the new VSC website here) - Friday, May 6th.

Jim Dead’s new album, “Ten Fires” is released on June 2nd. The album was produced by Tommy Duffin and myself, featuring solo tracks by Jim and full band tracks featuring Tommy, James Duffin and myself. Marking the occasion on the night is an album launch @ The 13th Note, Glasgow - I’ll be playing a solo set and as part of Jim’s band along with Tommy and James - full details to follow.

Reviews
Graveyard Full Of Blues, the split release from Sleepy Eyes Nelson and myself has picked up its first two reviews - a 10/10 from Loud Horizon and a 5-star nod from Blues Underground Network. Huzzah!
Gigs
I’m now taking bookings for this year’s gigs. Watch this space (or indeed the gigs page), for details as I get them.
Recordings etc.
Just finished work on Jim Dead‘s upcoming album Ten Fires, which I co-produced with Tommy Duffin (that’s right, the dream-team behind Pissed Off, Bitter And Willing To Share!) at 16 Ohm, featuring myself on guitar/backing vox. I must say, it’s all sounding pretty fucking spiffy.
I’m prepping a new band with my old mucker Bryan Campbell (ex-13 Conditions, used to be in Smotherparty – amongst other combos – with me) for active duty in the second half of the year.
There’s another film soundtrack in the works, some video stuff to be sorted for the YouTube channel – oh aye, and I’ve got to repair/mod some guitars. And do my tax return.
So. Plenty to be getting on with then.

NEW RELEASE - AVAILABLE NOW
Graveyard Full Of Blues: Pennies On My Eyes
The new album, Pennies On My Eyes, is one half of the Graveyard Full Of Blues project, a split release featuring two concise albums of lo-fi sounds from the blues underground - one each from Sleepy Eyes Nelson (Build That Coffin Of Mine) and myself (Pennies On My Eyes). These albums are both just shy of the half hour mark, making the CD a bargain at a mere £5 for nearly an hour of new music.
Pennies On My Eyes is available to download separately HERE. Build That Coffin Of Mine can be downloaded HERE. Alternatively, to get both albums together, buy the CD from gigs or via the afore-mentioned Bandcamp stores.
