February

Free download for Black Sabbath day, February 13th!

Acoustic blues fans might want to look away now ...

Sod Valentine's Day: the real celebration of the weekend is February 13th, which marks the 40th Anniversary of the release of Black Sabbath, the self-titled debut album of history's most influential heavy band.  Some would say this also marks the birth of metal, which seems about right.

As a small contribution to the celebration, here's a track that was intended for Craig's Pissed Off, Bitter And Willing To Share album (available here) but seemed somewhat out of place in the end - despite the title, it's more of a straight-ahead stoner rock type thing, and although it's hardly metal it's safe to say the primary influence is early Sabbath.

Craig: "It ended up a bit faster than intended, it's a bit rough around the edges and has a guitar solo that sounds like John McLaughlin playing The Flight Of The Bumble Bee while falling off a donkey, but I kind of like it.  I'm giving serious consideration to getting a band together later in the year playing something between alt.blues and stoner rock and I suppose this is an indicator of where that might go ..."

Anyway this is Channel Nowhere's first foray into the free download thing, and we'll leave it up for the next week or so.

For your free download, do the right-click thing here or go to:

If you have any problems, just email admin@channelnowhere.com and we'll email the MP3 back.

The track was produced, as was the album, by Tommy Duffin and myself, and that's Tommy on drums.  Recorded at Audio Experiments.

Progress on the album has been slow but steady with airplay on SubCity Radio, Celtic Music Radio and Sunny Govan FM, a nice wee feature on the album etc. at Leicester Bangs.  Blues Underground Network has a page up for it too, with a review to follow.

The first 'mini-review' has appeared, on The Blues Report blog:

"Yesterday I informed you all that I was going to be listening to a couple of recently submitted CD's, Craig Hughes "Pissed Off, Bitter And Willing To Share", Floyd Lee Band "Doctors, Devils & Drugs". Well I must say that I was more then just impressed, those were two damn good CD's. Blues music the way it was meant to be played, down and dirty, no prisoners taken."
